In this collection, The Power of Two, I’ve blended the likenesses of two well-known figures—often from different creative fields—into one unified portrait. Instead of showing them separately, I create a composite that symbolizes their shared influence and mutual inspiration. I think this approach captures the amazing dynamics that come into play when creative minds join forces. In a world that often highlights individual achievements, these paintings celebrate the incredible things that can happen when people work together.
Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin engaged in a short but intense period of living and working together in Arles, France, from October to December 1888. While they didn’t paint on the same canvases, they worked side-by-side, discussed art, shared a vision for modern art, and wrote letters together, creating what was known as a “studio of the south”. This collaboration was productive but also turbulent, ultimately ending after a heated argument where Van Gogh famously cut off part of his ear.
These limited edition prints are professionally produced using the highest-quality giclee printing on the finest archival paper, using the latest Epson professional Ultrachrome inks. I use acid free 308gsm, a heavy-duty matt paper made of 100% cotton rag which produces a subtle fibrous finish and gives an unbelievable, likeness to the original.
